Bottle Shock is the true story of a contest held in Paris in 1976, where American and French wines were evaluated by blind tasting. This event was recorded as “The Paris Wine Tasting of 1976” or “The Judgment of Paris”.
Paris-based Steven Spurrier (Alan Rickman) is an Englishman who believes French wines are the best in the world. In 1973, he opened France’s first wine school with the name “Academie du Vin”. Steven comes up with a competition when a friend tells him that California wines may soon rival French ones. There will be a competition of American and French wines and blind tasting will be done. For this, he first met with important names of France in the field of wine. (I have given the list of jury members below.)
Steven begins touring vineyards in the California area. Its aim is to choose the best wines of this region for the competition and bring them to France. Many things unexpectedly develop on this journey. When he tells American winemakers about such a competition, many of them want Steven to taste their wine so that the wine enters the competition. Jim Barrett, owner of the Chateau Montelena, who will come first in this contest, is cold to Steven and even does not want to give his wine. Barret thinks this arrogant Frenchman is holding a contest to make fun of the Americans and their wine. Barret’s son Bo does not think like his father. Bo gives it to Steven from “1973 Chardonnay”, unaware of his father.

It was very nice that they went to Naples for Margherita Pizza with friends they had made in Rome, then attended a family dinner in Tuscany. Of course, wines are always drunk in these meals.
